Remember those days(^^)/

I bet that Everyone has hometowns and has old memories of hometowns.  Sometimes, we remember those days and feel nostalgic.  For me, I have incredible memories of my old school days, and I really like those memories.  I am Japanese, and now I live in the United States, so, between my old memories and today's are very different.  I think that you have had those kind of experiences.  You used to play around in your hometown.  Then, you remember the view of old hometown in your mind.  However, some buildings were destructed, and so many new buildings were established.  Also, some trees were destructed.  After all, your hometown's view is totally different to your old memories.  If I can I want to go back those days because our memories in old days are usually very beautiful.  Generally, nostalgia makes your fantastic memories like Masuji Ono in An artist of the floating world by Kazuo Ishiguro.  His thought is always from past glory because the circumstances around him had changed so rapidly after World War II.  Therefore, he was held in his nostalgia.

In my experience, my old days in my mind is excellent.  I used to play in vacant lot and rice field with my friends.  And, I also like Japan's 80's culture because I think that I absorbed so many things when I was a child.  Therefore, Japan's 80's culture is extremely special for me.  Generally speaking, if one compares today and old days, everything should be more convenient today than old days.  However, our memories do not work that way because of nostalgia.  So, people value things depend on their own sense of values, not like how convenience these are.  So, we still keep saving old things like world heritage.

On the other hand, I also like to learn new things like experience in the United States, and I surely like my i-pod, PC, Nintendo Wii, and so on because it is convenience.  After I came to the U.S, I have absorbed a lot of things like when I was a child.  In my opinion, contrast things is very important.  For example, after I lived in the U.S, I can see my hometown the third person's view pretty much because I have learned other culture like American culture which is very different to Japanese culture.  So, now I can see my culture's advantages and disadvantages because I absorbed another standard which is American culture.

In conclusion, nostalgic memories are very precious and good like Masuji Ono.  He was struggling between nostalgic and new wave of memories.  He stopped walking in old days, and was held in a monster who is called "fixed idea".  I think that you would better have multiple sense of values from your experiences.  Then, think from multiple perspectives.  After that, your nostalgic memories will become more precious and niftier than now.  However, I am afraid that this idea can be my fixed idea......  Therefore, I want to keep stimulating my brain.

Perhaps Ono would have benefited from getting outside of his environment.  Maybe his staying put makes him stuck.

Hey Aki, I love your examples from Japan. It's really interesting to get someone's perspective from another country. Keep up the good work!
